The subject of biomaterials science continues to expand and increase in importance in many areas of clinical practice and in the pharmaceutical, medical device, nanotechnology and biotechnology industries. This journal, Biomaterials, is now clearly established as the leading journal that covers this field. The Impact Factor, as announced in June 2008, is 6.262 and in view of the increasing quality and numbers of papers submitted, the rejection rate is around 80%. The review, editorial and publishing processes, are very efficient and firmly embedded in the Elsevier Editorial Manager web-based system. Coordination of the review process is undertaken by Peggy O’Donnell in our Brussels office and all decisions on each paper, including allocation of referees and final decisions on acceptance, rejection and revision are made by myself. We look forward to continued collaboration with all of our authors and referees as we strive to introduce new initiatives and improve further the quality of the journal. We do suggest that all authors, and especially new authors, read carefully the guidance given in various documents listed in the menu.
Professor David Williams, Editor-in-Chief.
